Here’s an example:
Our beef comes in a box of 4 X 10 lbs tubes of beef. Each tube costs approx $101. We press each tube into 20 X 8oz patties, so we get 80 per box.
I’m getting mixed up at the packs vs description vs number of… etc. Can you give me some clarification?
The purchase and pack fields are for counting and receiving; they describe how the items ‘come in the door’. That would be a box as your Purchase and the tubes as the Pack.
The patties are essentially serving units, which don’t correspond to how the item is packed. So you can either
- Create ‘patty’ as a recipe unit, or
- Create a small recipe for a single patty. Then you would link this recipe as a component of all your burger recipes.
I favor the second option, since it would be a separate, distinct piece of data. This would allow you to see the recipe on recipe pricing reports, use it more easily in other recipes, get cross reference reports of its use, etc.
