Tips

When you use the Recipe Import Command, it will import both the Recipes and their Inventory Items.

Import Data from Recipe Manager

You can use the recipe Import feature to copy recipes from another unit. This import lets you select the recipes that you want to import. It also has a skip function so that recipes and ingredients are not overwritten.  The Recipe Manager Import will also bring the ingredient information with the recipes, making it very easy to select certain recipes and have the ingredients follow.  Use this method to add recipes to a Unit that has Inventory and Recipes in it.

Importing Recipes is ideal for chain operations to update unit recipe files.  Since the import function retains the original recipes, it will add to the new without erasing the old.  To send recipes to other units via a disk or an email, copy the ITEMS.* and RECITEM.* files.  Make sure you copy all of those files, regardless of the three-letter extension.

To start

1.       Open or switch to the Destination Unit – the unit that the recipes are going to.  Click Recipe, Click Recipe Manager.

2.       Click the  button.

CostGuard’s Import Recipe popup will appear.

3.       Click the  button.  A pop-up menu will appear.  Find the directory with your data.

If you are not sure where your data is located, click File, click View CostGuard.ini file.  Look for the line with “data= (folder name)”.  The (folder) is the folder name with your unit data in it.  In that file, you will find the data for all of your units.  Click on the Unit that has the recipes you want, and the list of recipes should show up in the right hand field.  If it does not, then click down in the directory until it appears.

4.       If your data is not on this computer, for example, on a CD or as an email, look for the ITEMS.* and RECITEM.* files.

You may want to keep your imported data in the main section of the CostGuard Shared folder: if you copy the files to a data file, you risk erasing recipes and inventory items.  If you have a chain, or you share recipes on a regular basis, saving to a disk is the easiest way to distribute updated recipes for your units.  If you wish, put the CD in the drive and click the down button next to the drive to find your files.

5.       Once you have found your data, make a choice and click one of the two radio buttons next to “overwrite” or “skip”

If you choose “Skip” then CostGuard will not import recipes with the same name from the other unit.  Use this option to save the current recipes.  Overwrite will erase the recipes, and substitute the new one.  Use this option if you are updating recipes and want everyone to have the same information.  CostGuard will recognize Chicken Alfredo and CHICKEN ALFREDO are the same recipe, but will not recognize Chicken Alfredo, and Alfredo, Chicken as being similar.  After importing, double check to make sure you did not accidentally import the same recipe under a different name.

6.      Use your cursor or mouse to move to the right field.  Click the box to the left of the recipes that you want to import.  Click the  button.

7.       Click yes, and CostGuard will import the recipes.

Depending on how many recipes you selected, this operation may take a minute or two.  If you click no, then CostGuard will return you to the Select Recipes pop-up menu.

8.       When finished, CostGuard will show the following pop-up.

Your Recipe names will appear.  Click Ok to accept.

9.       You will now return to the Recipe Manager Screen.  If needed, edit the recipes.

10.   When finished editing the Recipes, go to the added Inventory Items and edit them if needed.
